Mercia Grimbeek

Current Position: 

Director Project Management: ENERTRAG South Africa

Previous Positions: 

Mercia has extensive local and international experience in the development of Renewable Energy projects and has actively participated in the Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme in South Africa since its inception. Prior to joining ENERTRAG South Africa, Mercia was Compliance Manager at Mainstream Asset Management. She worked as Development Manager and interim Global COO for Mainstream Renewable Energy.

Services and boards:

Mercia has served on the Board of the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) since 2017 and chaired the Board from 2018 to 2023. She is also the co-founder of WE_Connect, a mentoring and networking organization designed to support women in the energy sector.

Rethabile Melamu

Current Position: 

Chief Executive Officer: South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA)

Previous Positions: 

Before moving into the CEO role at SAPVIA in May 2022, Rethabile was the General Manager of the Green Economy Unit at The Innovation Hub Management Company. Prior to this, she acted in positions at the Gauteng Department of Economic Development as the Acting Chief Director of the Sector & Industry Development Unit and Director of the Green Economy.

Services and boards:

Rethabile serves as Member of the Steering Committee for the South African Chapter of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs. She is also a Non-Executive Director on a number of boards such as the South African Renewable Energy Business Incubator, Green Matter, Mpumalanga Green Economy Cluster and Inani Startwel.

PhD Chemical Engineering; MSc Chemical Engineering; BSc Chemical Engineering.

Shiva Makotoko

Current Position: 

 Executive Director and Deputy CEO: RBN Fund Managers

Previous Positions: 

Shiva was a Special Technical Advisor on Municipal Finance and Infrastructure Financing to the national government, before then, she held the position of Executive Director at INCA Portfolio Managers, overseeing the implementation of the Infrastructure Debt Fund and consulting for the World Bank and National Treasury. She worked as Executive Head for Alexander Forbes Public Sector Division in South Africa and the rest of Africa, and Head of Public Sector Banking at Absa Corporate and Investment Banking.

Shiva currently serves as one of the Expert Group Panel Members on the United Nations Principles for Resilient Infrastructure,

Hlompho Vuyo Ntoi

Current Position: 

Co-Managing Director, African Infrastructure Investment Managers (“AIIM”)

Previous Positions: 

Prior to moving into the Co-Managing Director role in August 2020, Vuyo was the Co-Portfolio Manager of the IDEAS Managed Fund. Prior to joining AIIM in 2003, Vuyo was an investment analyst and strategist in the Research and Investment Management team at ipac South Africa, an investment management and consulting company that was then within the Brait Group

Services and boards: 

Vuyo holds a number of directorships, including positions on the boards of some of AIIM’s portfolio companies. He is also a Trustee of the Africa Infrastructure Developers Association (AFiDA) and a board member of the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA). Vuyo is a Director on the AIIM Board and is a member of the Executive Committee, while also serving as a member of the Investment Committees of AIIF2, AIIF3 and the IDEAS Managed Fund

Qualifications: 

Vuyo holds a B.Com Honours degree from the University of Cape Town, an M.Sc. from the University of Oxford and MBA from IESE Business School.

Michael Evans

Current Position: 

Public Law partner at Webber Wentzel law firm

Previous Positions: 

Prior to the merger between Webber Wentzel and Mallinicks Inc., Michael was the head of Mallinicks. After the merger, he headed the Public Law team for nine years. In the long ago past, Michael was an assistant lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and a research officer at two organisations.

Services and boards: 

Michael serves on the boards of two philanthropy organisations, The Vuleka Trust and The Tom Queba Memorial Fund Trust. He also serves on the board of Ndifuna Ukwazi, an activist organisation and law centre, and he serves on the board of a family trust. In the past he served three terms on the board of the World Law Group.

Qualifications: 

Michael holds a BA Honours degree, LLB and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Tax Law, all from UCT. He also holds a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Pretoria.

Mike Mulcahy
