City of Cape Town hosts drought crisis meeting for facilities managers

27 March 2018

On the 20th of March, the City of Cape Town and SA Facilities Management Association (SAFMA) with support from Old Mutual, GreenCape and Western Cape Government hosted an interactive drought crisis meeting for facilities managers.

Facilities and Building Managers in Cape Town were welcomed by Councilor Stuart Diamond and SAFMA Director Ronald Nothnagel. They saw the launch of the City’s Water Star Rating Certification and an update on the drought crisis. Western Cape Government provided advice on how businesses can develop their own Business Continuity Plan in order to reduce water usage whilst maintaining operations. The meeting also included an Old Mutual case study as well as GreenCape’s water-use benchmarks, tools and resources.

City officials from the Fire Department, Disaster Risk Management, Water Reticulation and members from the Water Inspectorate sat on a panel to answer questions and discuss aspects such as pressure management initiatives, fire prevention, Day Zero and the implementation of alternative water installations.
