GreenCape hosts City of Cape Town’s Water Business Briefing session

11 May 2017

On 9 May 2017, GreenCape hosted a special water briefing session arranged by the City of Cape Town (CoCT) for industrial and commercial water users in the City. The event saw presentations from Mayor de Lille (link), CoCT’s Department of Water and Sanitation director, Peter Flower, South African Breweries (SAB) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

The central purpose of the event was to provide the most recent updates on the water situation in Cape Town, show what measures are in place for ensuring a secure water supply, and to demonstrate approaches from businesses trying to reduce their consumption. Representatives from SAB and GSK were invited to present on actions they have taken to reduce their water consumption and to increase the efficiency of their existing water use. Event feedback was very positive with one attendee saying:

“I would like to compliment the team for a very informative session. It was very good to see the commitment from the City and specifically from the Executive Mayor. I was also very impressed with the presentation done by the City of Cape Town’s Water & Sanitation Department.”

The Q & A session that followed the presentations focussed predominantly on water saving solutions for businesses, was considered equally valuable. The City plans to roll out a further series of business events to continue informing their stakeholders.

“To hear what other market leaders have done to save water gave us some new ideas to implement going forward.”
