GreenCape to host “Green future landscape of the Western Cape” Exhibition at Premier Alan Winde’s First Thursdays on 3 October

25 September 2019

GreenCape, in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the Western Cape Government, is hosting a “Green future landscape of the Western Cape” exhibition during Premier Winde’s First Thursdays event on 3 October 2019.

Premier Alan Winde hosts monthly First Thursdays events to make the Western Cape government and its Ministers more accessible to members of the public. On 3 October, more than 30 greentech companies will be exhibiting alongside this opportunity to engage with the Premier and his cabinet. These companies and projects will be showcasing their innovative green technologies, ideas, services and products. From electric vehicles, to water efficiency technologies to upcycled products and artworks.

“The Western Cape is committed to values of innovation and sustainability and is at the forefront of green manufacturing and technology on the African continent. The companies and projects you will meet at October’s First Thursday demonstrate the strides being made towards a greener future for the Western Cape,” said Premier Alan Winde.

“Our exhibitors represent a wide spectrum of companies active in the green economy,” said Mike Mulcahy, GreenCape CEO. “They are a small sample of the Green Economy innovation and efforts based here in our province, providing inspiration and solutions for Africa and globally,” he added.

Set against Transport Month and the global climate strikes, the pressure on leaders to do something is mounting. This presents an opportunity for the Western Cape to lead a green economy transition in Africa. With the strong universities, excellent legal and financial sectors – products, services and ideas can be incubated here in Cape town to provide solutions to Africa’s Green economic development.

The mobile Atlantis Renewable Energy Challenge exhibition will also be on display during the First Thursdays exhibition.  Initiated in 2016 by GreenCape and the Atlantis Special Economic Zone for Green Technologies, in partnership with Wesgro and the City of Cape Town, the Annual Renewable Energy Challenge encourage and inspire young people in and around Atlantis to explore careers in the green economy.

For this year’s Annual Renewable Energy Challenge, learners were asked to submit mural ideas in the form of canvases illustrating how renewable energy could uplift their community. Their canvasses will also be on display.

A special thanks to Pallet Cycle for sponsoring up-cycled exhibition stands, and to ScanDisplay for sponsoring exhibition plant boxes.
