Home 5 News 5 Meet the team: Koketso Tlhabanelo

27 November 2020

GreenCape is pleased to introduce to our stakeholders a new appointment of our Chief Operating Officer.

Koketso Tlhabanelo (Chief Operating Officer)

What is your background expertise and how does it relate to your role here at GreenCape?

I have over 10-years of experience as a strategy consultant; the majority of which was with Kearney. During that time, my work involved interacting with senior business leaders of some of the world’s largest companies and governments to define their strategies, execute on them and make these organisations run more efficiently.

I have always had a “green streak” and I have an MSc in Corporate Social Responsibility with Environmental Management from the University of York.

My areas of focus have been in the Energy and Process Industries. I have also worked in the Public Sector, which aligns quite well with the work that GreenCape does.

Why have you chosen the career path that you have?

I have quite consciously created a career that allows me to gain broad, diverse experience and international exposure. Over the years, I have tended towards opportunities that provide high growth, learning and development. I enjoy working in a diverse environment with great teams, and I believe that GreenCape ticks those boxes and will importantly enable me to contribute to society through my work!

What project have you been working on as you start your role here at GreenCape?

GreenCape has an incredible amount of success and growth since it started 10-years ago. One of the first areas of focus will be working on improving GreenCape’s systems and processes, and ensuring that we can achieve our ambitions and have an even broader impact.

What impact are you hoping to have in the sector?

I am hoping to be able to help scale our work and have a much broader reach than we have had before.

What is your overall impression of GreenCape thus far?

GreenCapers are a family. It is good to see how close the team is, and I look forward to being a part of that family.

What are your hobbies?

I like to push myself and try different things, even the little things that scare me. This year I tried diving for the first time, and I have recently taken up swimming. Now that I am moving to Cape Town, my target is to get strong enough to do open water swims.

I am an ardent reader and I have written articles and opinion pieces. I absolutely love travelling. Covid-19 has grounded me this year, but I look forward to moving around a bit more next year.
