Home 5 News 5 Meet the team: Sibusisiwe Maseko

18 March 2021

GreenCape is pleased to introduce to our stakeholders a new appointment in our Sustainable Agriculture Team.

Sibusisiwe Maseko (Senior Agriculture Analyst)

What is your background expertise and how does it relate to your role here at GreenCape?

As cliché as it may sound, at the moment I would describe myself as a jack of all trades, and a master of none. I completed my undergrad Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and I am current a PhD candidate with a focus on Biomaterial/Biomedical Engineering. I am now working in the agriculture and ag-tech space.

I think this will serve me well and the broader work environment as I adapt quickly in new spaces, understanding different perspectives and communicating to different audiences for a common purpose.

What have been your favourite thing about GreenCape so far?

The people! Everyone is so lovely and welcoming. Although I’ve only met people virtually, everyone has gone over and above to make me feel comfortable and offered their assistance.

What project have you been working on as you start your role here at GreenCape?

Currently, I’ve been focused on learning from Inge and taking over her work (downloading 6 years of experience and knowledge is no joke). I’m also sitting in discussions for Urban Agri.

Why do you do what you do?

I have a personal philosophy to invest in knowledge systems and social interactions that maintain the dignity of others. I’m invested in working on projects and with people who reflect that philosophy.

What impact do you hope to achieve?

My main goal is to support the strategic goals of the Agri Sector Desk and GreenCape in general. I also aim to contribute ideas that catalyse the inclusion of young farmers into the formal economy and agro-processing industrialists up and down the agri-value chain.

What do you get up to on you spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy wine, knitting and baking
