Background

Established in 2010, GreenCape is a non-profit organisation that drives the widespread adoption of economically viable green economy solutions from South Africa. GreenCape works with businesses, investors, academia and government to unlock the investment and employment potential of green technologies and services, and to support a transition to a resilient green economy. Our aim is to be globally relevant in driving the uptake of green economy infrastructure solutions in the developing world.  

We require a service provider Gender Specialist to support the implementation of the “pipeline development to deploy clean energy technology solutions in municipal wastewater treatment works of South Africa” project.

Project Background and Context

One of our current projects for UNIDO is focused on providing readiness activities for Green Climate Fund (GCF) in order to support the deployment of clean energy solutions at municipal wastewater treatment works (WWTWs).

As part of this project, we require a consultant to undertake a gender analysis and recommendations on how to address gender, unconscious bias and social inclusion into renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) interventions within municipal
WWTWs.

Interested individuals are invited to submit quotations to undertake this work.

Concept

The readiness activities will focus on promoting the integration of RE and EE in municipal
WWTWs to reduce energy consumption and achieve GHG emission reductions.

CONSULTANCY AIM

The aim of the requested consultancy is to support the GreenCape project team with gender-related activities as defined by UNIDO’s Terms of Reference

SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES

a. Develop a gender analysis, and recommendations how to address gender, unconscious bias and social inclusion into RE and EE interventions within municipal WWTWs:

Develop gender analysis and recommendations to ensure that women and men of all age, ethnicity and social class can equally lead, participate in and benefit from the project’s outcomes. The guidelines will be based on national policies and processes including roles of relevant government agencies and engagement of women’s groups in the country, considering its alignment with the GCF Gender Policy and Environmental and Social Policy and approaches in the manual.

b. Conduct a gender, unconscious bias and social inclusion sensitization workshop:

The members of the national coordinating platform (which will be formed as part of this project’s prior activities) will receive training in addressing gender, unconscious bias and social inclusion sensitization.

c. General support to the project team on gender-related tasks
